Tongue Incident (Berlin) & Julius Holtz

TONGUE INCIDENT
Dark post-industrial ambient pieces of music. A mixture of biological
and philosophical experiences. Fieldrecordings, Beats and Beards.
Tongue Incident haven’t started as an incident itself, but more as a
forced wish of producer Effekthasch to collaborate with singer Zelch.

JULIUS HOLTZ
At the age of fifteen Julius Holtz found an old turntable on the
street. He plugged it into his hi-fi amplifier, started to scratch and
did fadings with the volume knob.
His parents were surprised by the strange noise coming from his room
but the professors at the Berlin University of the Arts liked his work
and so he studied sound. In order to keep the electronic spontaneous
and flexible, he plays his improvisations on a setup consisting of a
turntable and a laptop.

Also a rumour has spread, that it

After meeting Fritz Brenner while still in high school outside of Linz,

moniker versions were used through the years: Karpov vs Kasparov,
Karpov & Kasparov, KarpovKasparov or Trio Karpov Kasparov.
In autumn 2011 the disc label LocalRecords released an electronic EP
called ‘Soundtrack for a Game of Chess” under the name Karpov not
Kasparov. The EP was soon considered among the best musical works of
the year by Radio Romania Cultural and Radio Europa Libera and then was
declared ‘the album of the month’ by Vice Magazine.

Kruk & ghostandthesong

KRUK is a new group that plays, acts, talks, walks
improvisation. It's got nothing to do with theatre and a bit with dance
but more with 'movement'. It's plain improv. Using anything that is
available to the performers at the time of the performance. Maybe we
can call it 'Cagean Improv', not so much because it derives from John
Cage's work (allthough it does a bit) but because it admires his
freedom to come up with cool stuff.
The founder of the group is Lukas Simonis who solemnly declares that
anybody who plays in the group will be a KRUK member for the rest of
his/hers/it's life.
KRUK will have a liberal attitude towards the quality of it's
performers.
They can be;
- dead
- a thing
- an animal
- a plant
But there's also room for more obvious performers like;
- musicians, dancers, poets, etc, 'artists'
- Lukas Simonis' friends
- anybody else
- Lukas Simonis's enemies

Taped Nightmare
TAPED NIGHTMARE
Bandet Mareridt (Taped Nightmare)
Iselin Toubro, Approx. 70 min, Denmark, English Subtitles
"What happens when you record your dreams on video and view them
outside their natural boundaries? Find out as Dennis thinks he got it
all figured out but soon the tables are turning and he and his friends
Jimmy & Mike find themselves in a nightmare that is just as real as
dialing for a pizza or striking the g-chord. What are smoky minds to
do? Entering the dangerous realm of a collective nightmare the three
friends must find their way through and around their hideous
doppelganger in order to free themselves of this terminal nightmare -
but is it possible? Find out in this hair raising, rock'n'roll injected
pizza pie of cinematic slime."
Taped Nightmare - is the first feature film in a series of film and
video works to come out of Hollywood Tattoo Studio, the collaboration
of Iselin Toubro and Jonas Frederiksen, wherein they investigate film
language through outputs that can be viewed on your screen; from pure
form to more esthetically visceral works, and whats in-between.
This is their first output: a genre-specific feature film, with a
hands-on-everything concept from writing the script to the physical
distributable work, based on the classic hollywood model.
Taped Nightmare was written in 2010 and finally realized in 2012 under
the direction of Iselin Toubro, a Danish video artist. Shot exclusively
on VHS-C on locations in Copenhagen, Taped Nightmare starres Jonas
Frederiksen, Simon Van Deurs Formann, Alexander Fnug Olsen and many
more. It features original music by The Jester, Backstage Pass,
Girlseeker, Just Leaving, P.J. Bonneman & Alexander Fnug Olsen,
Redux and many more.

Pre-orders available with a SPECIAL OFFER: free postage worldwide!
It’s not often that a collection of writing reaches as far and wide as
Shane Anderson’s debut work, Études des Gottnarrenmaschinen. Broken
Dimanche Press is extremely excited to be publishing this bold
collection which includes three works that explore the boundaries of
fiction and poetry. Utilising a plethora of devices erasures, pseudo
application forms, Oulipo constraints, and the limits of the paragraph
this is indeed a virtuoso collection that takes on the problems of
(modern) travel, power relations, historical and mental representation.
Using humor as a tool to diffuse these heavy-handed themes, Études des
Gottnarrenmaschinen takes the musical analogy of the ‘étude’ seriously,
considering these to be studies, “lessons,” difficult, all aimed
towards a future idea of what fiction could be, pushing up against a
static Aristotelian scheme.
In this collection the reader moves from a Rome both ancient and modern
to a reconfigured world of global travel, and on to a unique,
philosophical examination of translation, rationalism and the
possibility of the transcendent. Instead of being envious of the video
game as the site of literary potential, Anderson has boldly taken on
the form in the first piece of this collection, “Failed Proposals,” and
what we get as the result is the closest one can come to having a
Playstation story that Barthelme or Perec would be happy to sit down
and play.
The second work, an extended version of “The Gospels of Movement,”
which first appeared online, in its depiction of St. Patrick as the
Slack Dog Snake Driver explores modern forms of travel and the
potential for violence, searching and debunking the myth of Ireland’s
patron saint, but also in an Andersonian way, reasserting it.
The final work in this collection is the "Cartesian Diver," an
extraordinary undertaking that explodes the idea of what words can and
cannot achieve in the world of objects. This piece takes up Descartes
and his Meditations on First Philosophy and as French philosopher
Quentin Meillassoux has recently suggested, Cartesian rationalism is
not as easy to do away with as modern philosophers would have us
believe and as such, Anderson takes another, necessary stab at
Descartes and leads us to surprising ground, giving way, in the end, to
the Cartesian Evil Deceiver: a blueprint for what a speculative realist
fiction could read like. In each of these pieces form is used with
special care, finding the best tool to explore each of its powerful
ideas.
Shane Anderson (b. in California, 1982) has lived in Berlin since 2005.
His poetry and prose have appeared widely, including Hilda, > kill
author, and the playbill for Matthew Barney's KHU. Anderson has also
worked as a translator, most recently with the German poet Uljana Wolf

Half High is a new project by Lucy Phelan and Matthew P. Hopkins, both known for their work with a number of Sydney based groups, most notably as founding members of the band Naked On the Vague. Half High create a slightly damaged form of new age, where enlightenment is achieved through broken golem voice, heavy breathing, meditative synth lines, and atmospheric tape collages. Half High map a sonic terrain that is in parts alien and industrial, and in certain areas, tranquil and mesmerising.

KOMA Elektronik presents: Loud Objects
LOUD OBJECTS (US)
The Loud Objects create electronic noise with minimal components:
microchips, a power jack, an audio jack, and wire. The group solders
custom audio circuits live, creating audible fluctuations of
electricity with these bare elements. Gradually building a complex
sound circuit, they present electronic music in a form closer to a
physical instrument than a laptop. Their performances invite the
audience to bear conscious witness to each musical gesture: the
addition of a microchip; the soldering of an output pin to the audio
jack.
The New York City-based trio (Kunal Gupta, Tristan Perich, Katie Shima)
stage their lush noise constructions with soldering irons on top of
overhead projectors, slide projectors, flourescent light towers, and
remodeled guitars. Formed in 2005 at Columbia University, the Loud
Objects have since skirted between the worlds of noise rock,
contemporary music, circuit-bending, and chiptunes, playing at Brooklyn
house parties, collaborating with new music ensembles, exhibiting at
electronic arts festivals and galleries, and serenading Rhode Island
from the trunk of their car.

SoundBoxes Workshop Presentation + Macumbista Live Set
During the SoundBoxes workshop, held at NK 26-27 May 2012, several
participants discovered the hidden sonic qualities of objects from our
everyday world, combining the arts of electronics, noise, sculpture and
collage. The basic elements employed are a wooden box, a speaker, a
small audio amplifier, and a contact microphone. To this, brave
box-builders added their own found objects, graphics, images, memories
and ideas to create unique electroacoustic cabinets of curiosities.
The group, including Jukka Hautamäki, Camilla Barratt-Due, Alo Alogono,
Jennifer Eberhardt, Tristen Bakker, Christoph Buescher and others, will
present their finished SoundBoxes this evening, with audience members
possibly even getting the chance to play them as well.
The evening will conclude with a short set for analog synthesizer,
found objects and speaker box by workshop leader Derek Holzer.
You can find out more about the workshop here:

Sea Urchin
Sea Urchin is a project that works with the primal forms of sound and light, starting from a series of stills, excerpts from a video documentary filmed under the sea near the island of Tioman in Malysia. Francesco Cavaliere and Leila Hassan are during their live performance researching the lost reflection, which lies on the deep seabed. Using raw materials and textile surfaces, they transform multiple rays of light into a projection that changes shape organically and constantly. Sea Urchin is a vehicle of investigation that furthers their aim to explore a mirage of forms, as a bridge to an unreachable cosmos, or, equally an unexplored seabed.

plus: Peter Ablinger
"Sounds are not sounds! They are here to distract the intellect and to
soothe the senses.
Not once is hearing 'hearing': hearing is that which
creates me."
The composer Peter Ablinger (born in Schwanenstadt, Austria in 1959)
is,
as Christian Scheib once put it, a "mystic of enlightenment" whose "
calls and litanies are aimed at cognition."
At the same time, the composer, who - after studying graphic
arts - studied with Gösta Neuwirth and Roman Haubenstock-Ramati, and
since 1982 lives in Berlin, is also a skeptic who understands
the cultural rules and (destructive) habits enforced by tradition:
"So let us play further and say: sounds are here to
hear (-but not to be heard.
That's something else). And that hearing is here to be ceased
('Das Hören ist da um aufzuhören'). More I can't say." (Text: Christian
Baier,

Man from Uranus & Spoelstra
Man From Uranus lives in the UK making 'organic'
Electronic music inspired by his love and knowledge of early
avant-garde and tape music, 70s Library music, Space Jazz, and raw
energy garage rock. Using organs, synthesizers, oscillator boxes and
toy samplers, MFU plays 'live' without backing tapes a highly
synaestasiac wall of sound that can be at once frightening, funky, and
full of otherwordly beauty.
MFU enjoys audio tricks with his audience, drawing them into intense
grooves and at the correct moment shattering the sound into any
hundreds of unexpected pieces before pulling them back together into
some new angular and abstracted flow. Inspired by Stockhausen and Sun
Ra and guitar bands like the Stooges or the Fall, Man From Uranus
completely ignores any modern trends in Electronic music in favour of a
sound which is completely idiosyncratic and outsider.

Core of the coalman + Tillvind (visuals) & Indias indios
CORE OF THE COALMAN:
Jorge Boehringer (US/CZ, ex-Caroliner) is an electro-acoustic musician,
composer, sound designer, and installation artist from the United
States.
He was born in New York, grew up in Texas, and then moved to Oakland, California. Since coming to the San Francisco Bay Area ten years ago he has become an unstoppable navigational presence in the noise and experimental music scenes. Having performed throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Japan, he is now living in Prague.
As one of his alter-egos Core of the Coalman, Jorge performs solo on a variety of electrical and acoustic media in live performance. These pieces address a variety of conceptual and artistic questions and result in the creation of novel sonic architectures.
Core of the Coalman consists of continuity and discontinuity for viola, voice and circuits on the border between order and chaos.. Sonically diverse and sometimes explosive in texture, Core of the Coalman emphasizes the physicality of sound and its psychedelic relationship with our perceptual and environmental mechanics.
Experimental in nature, this project has comfortably shared programs with everything from rock bands (from Deerhoof to Skullflower), to power electronics and noise (such as D Yellow Swans and Dead Machines), and famed avant-garde figures (like Ikue Mori, Pauline Oliveros, and Ghedalia Tazartes), and has been featured on contemporary classical music concerts as well as in major museums and gallery performances.
TILLVIND:
Tillvind is a collagist working with analog, and rarely digital means
and mostly in her mind’s eye. 6?min of motile collages is a video that
she is happy to contribute to the core of the coalman show on his
berlin apperance

INDIAS INDIOS (Benjamin Altermat):
Indias indios is an archive that physically has the form of a tape
collections, selected found images, dirty drawings and world videos, is
also a band

Every live-set presents an unknown musical landscape driven by a very
simple and minimal way of operated with analog machines.

Intercontinental Swimming Grind#1
The traditional method of interaction between Artist
and Other is through exhibition, i.e., generating a scenario in which a
predetermined Artist exists and individuals who stumble upon the work
in space or through images are transformed into Viewers.
Anton Vidokle suggested we are entering a period of “Art Without
Artists” (2010), but we instead suggest that we are present in a moment
of Artists Without Art.
Silent populism’s faintly projected image of communal support is
solidified through one’s placement in group exhibitions. Today there
are many such exhibitions originating from the internet
and participants in them are often numerous (JstChillin, BYOB,
Speedshows, immaterial surveys, etc.).
Group exhibitions are the punctuation to an ongoing social media
conversation where individuals promote one another until those very
promotions materialise into their names being shown side by side one
another, categorised by a "curator" and legitimated by a "gallery".
In this brand new series the authors aim to reach
out for real-life simulations of socially performative happenings.
Each time a random number of artists/ non artists is invited to take
the chance of exhibiting, performing, lecturing,
playing, not appearing, cooking, body-painting ... inter-active /
inter-passive.
Time lengths of the interventions will vary and the order will be
chaotic.
The overall limit for each intercontinental swimming would depend on
the context of the chosen space and its sphere of perpetual reception
and dist ribution.
Soundtrack will be served by DJ Kristy Foom80 & Dr Filtig (Dadatek)

NOVOLINE DJ Set
NEW. BEAT.
The genre that we are only now uncovering from its buried past, only
alive and vital from 1987-89 in Belgium, however greatly influencing
the commercial techno/euro-house cash cow of the early 90s with
producers moving on to groups like 2Unlimited, Technotronic, as well as
many Acid projects. Nat Fowler (Oxes, Novoline) is no stranger to it,
stumbling upon a few records three years ago in Italy when in search of
unheard of tracks.
Tonight NOVOLINE presents a vinyl only set of some of the darker and
more obscure New Beat gems from his collection, the stuff that really
influences Novoline, serendipitously found in junk shops and euro bins
in Italy, the UK, and Belgium, along with harder to find selections
acquired and informed by his research into the genre's
lineage. [RIGHT HERE: ADJECTIVE THAT EXPLODES YOUR MIND]

Head of Wantastiquet & DJ Inox Kapell
Head Of Wantastiquet is the solo project of
Sunburned Hand of the Man's Paul Labrecque, an American musician,
songwriter now residing in Belgium.
He has recorded several solo albums and collaborations (with Chris
Corsano and Valerie Webb) and he plays and records with the bohemian
group Sunburned Hand Of the Man. He recorded for labels such as Mad
Monk, Three Lobed, Eclipse and Bad Da Ding.
Historically, aesthetically and sonically his new work bears genuinely
comparison with ‘American primitivism’. It’s a mix of psychedelic banjo
hymns, apocalyptic space folk and incredible drugged out soul-whispers.
It layers banjos, guitars and smoke as though they were shimmering
veins of black pearls, pulsing against the scarlet dawn.
Head Of Wantastiquet manages to take a conceptual precept as dark as
life itself, and invests it with an inner glow that churns our own
black hearts like butter.

Staalplaat Radio & DJ Marcelle / Another nice mess
Staalplaat Radio is as old as Staalplaat itself,
starting at the Amsterdam pirate stations that were active in the 80s
with names like "Radio Got" or "Radio Dood".
It all came to a stop after the zero tolarance crackdown that cleaned
Holland, but the will to do radio stayed and it materialized in joining
the webcast station DFM, with a program every Thursday from 23:00 till
01:00 on dfm.nu.
Every first Thursday of the month Staaplaat will perform Live Radio
from O Tannenbaum so come by or tune in!
DJ Marcelle plays dubstep, world music, drum 'n' bass, experimental electronics, cumbia, techno, dub, leftfield hip hop and many more besides.
19h00 Bar open
