THIEVES' WHO'S WHO (USA / NL)

Thieves' Who's Who: Tom Smith and Wouter Jaspers. 1956, 1986. The second album by Peach of Immortality, Smith's mid-80s improv ensemble, was released the year Jaspers was born. Bruno Nettl's "Primitive Culture," a landmark ethnomusicological essay on early human musical forms, was written the year Smith was born. Jaspers, an expat like Smith, was born in the Netherlands. Smith is an American. Each has been obsessed by art and culture and the deformation/extension/elevation/downfall of same since they were teenagers. Friends since 2008, Jaspers and Smith formed the nascent TWW in 2010. Each runs a label, each juggles multiple projects, each has had an extraordinary number of releases issued, each thirsts for blood. They sound like they sound, sound like themselves, sound like no-one else.

AUDREY CHEN and ID M THEFT ABLE (USA)

AUDREY CHEN
Using the cello, voice and analog electronics, Chen’s work delves deeply into her own version of narrative and non-linear storytelling. Her playing explores the combination and layering of a homemade analog synthesizer, preparations and traditional and extended techniques in both the voice and cello. She has recently relocated to Berlin, Germany from Baltimore, MD USA and continues to maintain an active touring schedule throughout Europe.

ID M THEFT ABLE is an improvising soundist from Windham, Maine, USA. His instruments tend to include his mouth (with or without the use of vocal chords), an assortment of found objects/toys/junk which are sometimes amplified via an "amplified surface" (glass, metal, wood), various electronics, and, on occasion some "conventional instrumentation" sneaks into the picture.
Together, they look to be a motley couple wielding a cello, perhaps an old saab side window, various other surfaces, table, objects and toys... and most importantly, their mouths. And together, they create some pretty intense, physical, humorous, jarring, unusual and sometimes strangely beautiful sound combinations and caterwauling. They are as incongruous as they are a natural pair, delving deep into their own shared, wordless and analog languages.

NATHAN SCOTT BELL (USA)

Nathan Osmodius Scott Bell, visionary instrumentalist, employs banjo as a shapeshifting tool, using a bow, finger picks, and clawhammer/frailing style to seek out whatever sound that is calling. Nathan uses trumpet, bass, guitar and drums also in his striving to channel the vibrations which exist in the universe.

Luperci & Francesco Cavaliere presents XILO ASTRO PIETRA

Luperci is the music/aural project of New Mexico based artist Joseph Angelo. Born in the empty wilderness of the New Mexico desert, Luperci has performed and recorded trance inducing drone music since the winter of 2007. The most recent release being 'Jahator' from the Sonic Meditations label.

The spectrum Luperci explores through the chosen instrumentation is very vast, taking the sitar and forging between light eastern-influenced ambiance to blown out noise and back, easing the listener's mood by shifting textures with melodic, yet doomed-out compositions. A brooding journey sure to lift you into another world free of society, creating a full body experience through vibrational sound.

Joseph Angelo merges his love of classical north Indian ragas, industrial noise soundscapes, 60's psychedelic rock, doom and black metal with an interest in both altered and meditative states to create the basis and direction of Luperci. The strange magic of the sitar has become the core of his minimal compositions, sometimes embellished with synthesizer, field recordings, percussion, tanpura, and voice. Each element is electronically treated, manipulated, layered, and designed to provide the listener access to an introspective or trance-like space. Each piece of music is intuitively arranged with a focused intention. Song structures are present, but left open and fluid enough for chaos to take hold in live performances.

Notable Luperci performances have taken place at the Minima per Maxima Festival at L'an Vert gallery in Liege, Belgium, Salon Bruit in Berlin, Germany, th">e Spectre Series at the University of New Mexico Arts Lab, a live radio performance on the 'No Other Radio Network' show in Berkley, California and Basement Films Audio/Visual Festival 6 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Sunday September 25 - Mixed Event
Sculpture (UK, Dekorder) &
Craig Schuftan Disco Lecture (Aus)
DJ John Edward Donald (UK)

Sculpture is an analogue A/V music & animation performance Duo-enterprise based in London/UK
and run by the musician Dan Hayhurst who makes sounds audible and the visual Artist Reuben Sutherland who makes pictures visible.

Sculpture explores an magical idiosyncratic aesthetic encompassing pop, appropriative collage, cut & spliced techno, noise, early electronics, the avant-garde and Looney Tunes, mechanical and digital animation techniques, tape edits and computer programming.
Due to their very patient diy-scientific working manner,
which can be described like that:

!!!before you go on reading I recommended to watch at that picture for more than 1 second.
right, its a picture disc !!!

Live, Reuben Sutherland ‘DJs’ with zoetropic picture discs, printed with intricate concentric circles of illustrated frames which come to life when filmed with a video camera, projecting looping fragments of surreal, luridly coloured imagery into eyeballs and brains at 25 frames per second Victorian mechanical imaging technology combined with digital video. Dan Hayhurst feeds tape loops, lo-fi analogue electronics, and digital sequences to a modular assembly (pile of junk, technical term) comprising a battered reel to reel tape recorder, CD player, walkman, hardware sampler and FX units. The resulting kaleidoscopic sensory overload is raw, exciting, the process visible to the audience, experimental yet filled with a der ?anged sense of joy.

And all that performed in a way that everyone no matter which class, no matter where from, no matter what scene understands this is just very beautiful, healthy and gentle and everyone in this room is my friend and i will change my whole life from now on. And I should by a record as well.

In September 2010 Sculpture’s audio-video picture disc LP, Rotary Signal Emitter was released by Dekorder records (dekorder.com). It was a Wire magazine Top Outer Limits Release of 2010, Arthur magazine described it as the coolest object since the Buddha Machine & Brainwashed said: an act of vinyl alchemy not easily surpassed.
A second picture disc LP, Toad Blinker, will be released in October 2011 by Dekorder.

Craig Schuftan Disco Lecture

Serious discussion on the subject of disco is rarely heard among intellectuals, because disco is assumed to have no intellectual significance at all. And serious discussion on the subject of disco is never heard in discos, because the bass is too loud. Besides, most people are too busy concentrating on doing The Hustle without spilling Campari on their white pants to ponder the significance of the phrase ‘boogie-oogie-oogie til you just can’t boogie no more’, let alone to ask themselves whether or not it might in fact be better to stop boogieing sometime before this happens. And yet these questions must be asked. In a world full of problems, should we really - as the ? Bee Gees famously insisted - be dancing? While some have promoted disco as a harmless form of escapism, others including Theodor W. Adorno (1903-69) and Michael J. Jackson (1958-2009) have suggested that our troubles might be blamed on the boogie itself.

Now, for the very first time in Berlin, music writer and broadcaster Craig Schuftan puts the disco back into discourse with ‘Eine Kleine Nacht-Fieber’, an inspirational talk on the history and philosophy of Disco from The Frankfurt School to Funky Town and back, set to a soundtrack of non-stop solid-gold hits. Schuftan’s presentation will be followed by a dancefloor education from DJ Dr Blake Thompson (P.H.D.I.S.C.O), visiting professor Dan Buhagiar, and The Schuftronic Orchestra. By the end of the night, you may just have found yourself doing that which both Adorno and the supporters of the ‘Disco Sucks’ movement thought impossible thinking while dancing.

DJ John Edward Donald (UK) (once I had some parents mix)

... is more known as The Human Elephant & as part of Rats Live On No Evil Star and less people know that he speaks German like no one else does in a voice that is more than sophisticated. And so are his Dj-sets as well. Balancing in a funny way between the radio-memories from childhood and the first own music experiences as teenagers.

His set are made for time traveling between the kitchen table and mum and the so called first cigarette and first love and first youth culture. everything first one after the other and best thing about it:
He doesn't show off or gets pathetic in any moment which predetermines his sets for a lovely Sunday nigh ?t in a bar with people who were once young.

Marisa Anderson is a composer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist living in Portland Oregon. She works solo and with others. Anderson’s second solo record, The Golden Hour, was released January 2011 on Mississippi Records. The Golden Hour features 12 improvisations for guitar and lap steel inspired by Delta blues, West African guitar, country and western radio from the 60?s and 70?s, gospel, noise, rhythms, cycles, mortality, and praise. Anderson’s past projects include the Evolutionary Jass Bands and the Dolly Ranchers. She has collaborated with Mirah, Beth Ditto, Tara Jane O'Neil, The Devil Makes Three, Cynthia Nelson, Kaia Wilson, Sarah Dougher and many others. Anderson’s music has been featured on soundtracks including, ‘For the Love of Dolly’, ‘Girls Rock’, and ‘Gift To Winter’. Her debut solo recording ‘Holiday Motel’ was a 2006 Outmusic nominee for Best Female Debut Record. Anderson has spent the past seven years working for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls. Before arriving in Portland in 1999, Marisa walked across the US, toured Mexico with Circo De Manos, helped launch the One Railroad Circus in Santa Fe, New Mexico and was a founding member of the Chaos Collective.

----

Bridget Hayden (UK, KRAAK)

Best known for her involvement with the hypnotic, shambollic and critically acclaimed drone band Vibracathedral Orchestra, Hayden splihet in 2006, desiring change and a new vein to hone.
She toured solo with kindred freaks such as The Aethr Method, Melanie Crowley-Delaney, Marcia Bassett and Sunburned Hand of the Man, later teaming up with The Telescopes’ henchman Stephen Lawrie to begin a noisy collaboration that continues to confuse and electrify.
In her first official and long awaited solo release, you will find a spectrum of somnambulist trances that seamlessly conjoin dense and frantic depth with delicate fracture. Relentless guitar shredding epics are interspersed with graceful, drifting melancholia that lull the listener back to shore with a warm, whispered dream after being crashed mercilessly against the rocks.

Part Wild Horse's Mane On Both Sides

"Percussionist Pascal Nichols and flautist Kelly Jones have minted a profound new form of improvisation that carves spectral shapes from silence and creates free music with a spare orchestral beauty and deep psychedelic atmosphere. Augmenting their instruments with electronics, tapes and old military communication systems, they expand the basic free jazz format with drones, feedback and zoned vocals, taking the Cherry/Blackwell duets and relocating them upwind of the alien soundtracks generated by Japan’s Taj Mahal Travellers." Volcanic Tongue 'Tip of the Tongue 2011.

Michael Northam

Michael Northam, since childhood, has been inspired by vast landscapes and dramatic weather, cultivating a life-long fascination with the personal experience of natural phenomena — the seed from which all his work grows. His artistic development has gradually evolved from early actionistic performance art and painting to an emphasis on sound through explorations of organic sound phenomena, acousmatic composition and live sound improvisation. He has collaborated with filmmakers and choreographers and his work has been published and presented internationally in venues such as: KHOJ (New Delhi), Whitebox (New York), and/OAR (Seattle), o-artoteca (Milan), ARTe SONoro (Madrid), ferns (Paris). Currently based in Berlin, Germany, he has begun a series of new collaborations a ?nd improvisations on his self-designed magnetic harp and continues making unique sound design for independent filmmakers and room installations. http://oro.preg.org/

For the autumn 2011 performances - Michael will be exploring a new/old series of 'spirit songs' - momentary manifestions of uncharted motifs, inner visions, spontaneous textures and spooky tunes - summoned spontaneously from voice, micro-tonal ukulele played by motors, as well as self-built bamboo flute and other devices all processed in real-time in various successions, methods and means. Think the spirits of Angus Maclise, Joe Jones and Takehisa Kosugi meeting on the astral plane. A solo continuation and tribute to the long-term collabortion with Hitoshi Kojo known as KODAMA.

Athena Nej

Athena nej was born in the country of car polishers. after long years of endless struggles she finally moved away ending up in the holy country of berlin, germany where everything is possible.

There she went through a final stadium of sleeping beautiness on a tower she found in an abandoned eastern-german factory for capacitors. some little boy was sent to rescue her from there because his mother had seen athena nej on her tower and thought she was about to commit suicide. which obviously was not the case. so the boy went back home to tell his mom.

Nevertheless she decided to go discover the world at the foot of her tower anyway joining several band projects, participating in movies and exhibitions…

Athena Nej is a one-person plus a four track plus a children’s drum set plus a bunch of contact mics plus one or two endless tapes noise project

Brian Mckenna

Through the use of analogue audio/video synthesis, McKenna's performances create mind-melting synesthetic progressions of visceral, seemingly abstract sound and vision. His continually evolving setups of self-built and heavily customized gear employ constructive and destructive interference patterns to the task of exploring resonances within specific space and time across hybrid media.

Brian D. McKenna was born on the seismic rift between English and French Canada in the mid 1970's. Raised first in Scotland and England, he re-emigrated to the new-world for further indoctrination. After sleeping through high-school, and then obtaining degrees in music and visual-art, he relocated to Amsterdam to pursue a Masters of Fine Art and a life without automobiles. Currently living and working in Europe, he exhibits and performs internationally, forms one half of a band called VHSUHF. When asked about the connections between image & sound, McKenna tends to say something to the effect of, "it's the same signal".

Alessandro Bosetti / Lou Mallozzi

Alessandro Bosetti (b. 1973) is a sound artist, composer and performer currently based in Berlin. He's main focus is in the fringe area between spoken language and music. He created a series of highly compelling sound works where relational aesthetics meets innovative composition. Since 2000 he has been a key Ars Acustica figure, and created a vast body of work of hybrid, award winning, text-sound and radio compositions for the main Radio and Electro Acoustic Music studios in Europe. Among them, pieces like Il Fiore della Bocca (Rossbin/DLR 2005), a work on the vocality of the mentally and physically impaired and African Feedback, a collaborative scrutiny on experimental music in West Africa (Errant Bodies press, 2004). Field research and interviews often build the basis for his abstract compositions along with electro-acoustic and acoustic collages, relational strategies, trained and untrained instrumental practices, vocal explorations and digital manipulations.

>> Alessandro Bosetti is an emotional performer that has consistently toured in Europe, Asia and the United States. He's been presenting solo sets for voice and electronics blurring the line between categories such as electro acoustic composition, text-sound pieces, and performance. Most recently he’s been involved in exploring repetitive speech-loop forms as a solo artist and with his ensemble Trophies with fretless guitarist Kenta Nagai and drummers Tony Buck and Ches Smith. Trophies, with two upcoming cd releases and a busy touring schedule has imposed itself as one of the most innovative and genre defying combos of the last years.

>> Blow Up magazine has called Bosetti “One of the most anomalous and fascinating figures in the contemporary scene“, Dusted Magazine “A rewarding, unique and surprisingly responsive encounter.” For The Wire “Bosetti's work has undjudgemental embrace, complex transvaluations and challenges our liberalism." Bosetti's most recent Cd Zwolfzüngen has been listed as one of The Wire's best 15 outer limits cd's of 2010.

JD Emmanuel + Dolphins into the Future

"...His name is JD Emmanuel, and his superlative self-(re)-leased 1982 album Wizards still bristles with ancient intensity and futuristic wonder. Influenced by Emmanuel's "extensive background in spiritual and metaphysical stuydies" and a love for Reich, Riley and Glass, these blissful analog synth jams should instantlyappeal to fans of Eno, Cluster and the music from "Legend of Zelda." An there's plenty electric relaxation available from Emmanuel's website. Go for the "Wizards" download (samples only), stay for the free meditation advice..."

"...Much-anticipated reissue of this obscure 1982 private-press minimalist synth/trance masterpiece, more talked about than actually heard and a secret influence on much recent underground activity, from Wolf Eyes through The Skaters. Indeed John Olson was the first person I ever heard talking it up, describing it as sounding like “Corwood jamming Alpha Centauri” and that still feels like as good an approximation of the weirdly personal Kosmiche universe that Emmanuel floats through on this amazing side as you’re likely to get.

There are keyboard lines so pure that they sound like they are etched into the air via beams of dazzling light, the kind of celestial melodies and hosanna hymns most commonly associated with the heavy devotional cloak of mid-period Popol Vuh, occult drones that sound endlessly deep and a very personal cosmology that balances cracked ‘real people’ mysto-universe musings with everything that the term New Age might’ve been, had it been primarily practiced by future-bending loners in private Sirius-channelling lodges situated at the cncardinal points of the earth..."

dolhins into the future:

"...Everything here is lo-fi. There are dusty samples of waves lapping on Pacific Island shores, Polynesian choirs and, most tellingly, pitch-shifted bird noises.

A better example of where Dolhin into the Future's music lies might be in The Residents' Eskimo and its brilliant blending of faux-anthropology into convincing and playful soundscapes. Or perhaps Demdike Stare, who use pure sounds embedded in a black magic abyss to invoke pagan excitement and fear, whereas Dolphins' spell is rough-edged, organic and pure white wizardry without the kitsch. Either way, all three of the long tracks on Ke Ala Ke Kua take you away, drifting over time and space, hazy with memories and past lives mixing in a tropical fantasy. Despite the name, it's definitely the beluga experience."

"...Martens (D into the F) explores the astral plane as underwater environ via a mix of found sound and synthesizer that remixes new age clichés into a more contemporary package. “The Voice of Incorporeality” gathers things into a crowded foreground mash where the ebb and flow of a slowly modulating synth is overlaid with what sounds to be gurgling water, birds and dolphin calls. For such a pleasant little environment, Martens’ oasis grows surprisingly stagnant over 30 minutes, its pastel exotica relentlessly revolving on a stationary axis...&qncuot;

Anthea Caddy (Cello) | Olivier Di Placido (guitar)
Jassem Hindi (Electronics)
/ Axel Doerner

Anthea Caddy is a cellist and artist from Melbourne, Australia currently based in Berlin, Germany.

Interested in the relationship between recorded sound, spatialisation and instrumental performance, much of Caddy’s work focuses on the incorporation of acoustic, electro-acoustic and recorded space within performance and multi-channel installation.

In live solo performance she often uses low lighting or complete darkness in either stereo or multi-channel configurations.Alongside her solo work Anthea collaborates and performs with many artists in various guises, most notably with sound artist Thembi Soddell (Iland, Cajid Media), Annette Krebs (maps of corners project), Philip Samartzis, Magda Mayas, Tarab (Eamon Sprod), Steve Heather, Anthony Pateras, Eric la Casa, Sean Baxter, Christian Wolff, Tony Conrad, Robin Fox, Robin Hayward, Clare Cooper, Morten Olsen, Clayton Thomas, Liz Allbee (bogan ghost)….. and many others . She is a current member of the 24 piece Splitter Orchestra, Berlin.

http://mapsofme.wordpress.com/

Olivier Di Placido is a self-taught musician who performs on electric guitar. His approach is mainly focused on the manipulation and the sonic possibilities of each elements of the guitar as a sound source (Unscrewed neck, unfixed pick-up, broken strings or not, electricity and short circuit…).He’s ausculting and trashing each of this elements by mooving the pick-up around"+ the instrument. He develops a world of tension and rupture with an interest for non narrative structure and spontaneous form.

During the past few years, he has collaborated and played on concert with many musicien as well as solo performance in Germany, France, Switzerland, Poland, Sweeden and Italy.

Saturday May 7 - Concert
Alexander Rishaug (Dekorder) + Dj Fett + DJ Ullman

Alexander Rishaug is a sound artist, producer and musician. His sound is melodic, melancholic and often quiet. Rishaug explores tones and textures through the use of electronics, field recordings, toys or simply just playing around with an instrument. Rishaug combines the intimate knowledge of his musical equipment with the curiousness of an amateur.

The result is always a detailed, rich and subtle sound, with a sharp focus on structure, rhythm and stretched out melodies. His sonic landscapes build and expand slowly, thereby moving the listener along an exploration of the experience of time. Acoustic and digital sounds are blended so that the origin is sometimes difficult to trace.

Among the musical references we find minimalist old-timers such as Steve Reich and Terry Riley, whose repetitive patterns and drones respectively, form the basis of much of Rishaug’s album Possible Landscape. These song structures are combined with a sonic palette that is equally informed by post-90s electronic music and glitch as by composers such as Pierre Henry and Bernhard Parmigiani.

Sunday April 17 - 3 Konzerts
Justice Yeldham (Aus)
Eli kesler and Tobias Delius (Uk/Us)
BOLLA (Ger)

What's been described as "a trumpet player trapped in a two dimensional universe" is in fact the unique work of Justice Yeldham, a maverick musician with an unhealthy obsession with sheets of broken glass. In his infamous show that has astonished and bemused countless people in over 40 countries, yeldham ecstatically purses his lips against sheets of amplified glass whilst deftly employing various vocal techniques ranging from throat singing to raspberries, turning discarded shards into crude musical instruments. The results are a wild array of cacophonous noise that is strangely controlled and oddly musical. The instruments simple, original and effective premise is a welcome riposte to over complicated musical performances of modern times. A one of a kind act re-defining the expression 'don't try this at home' this show quite simply needs to be witnessed to be fully appreciated, let alone understood.

Delius began playing saxophone in 1980 in Germany. In 1983-1984 he lived in Mexico City where he played in the “Cuarteto Mexicano de Jazz” led by pianist Francixco Téllez.
Delius moved to Amsterdam in 1984 and studied for a short while at the Sweelinck Conservatorium. He soon became involved with Amsterdam improvisers and dropped his studies to immerse himself in the improvised music scene. In 1990 he was awarded the Podiumprijs from the organisation Stichting Jazz in The Netherlands. In February 2004, Delius was awarded the VPRO/Boy Edgar Award, the Netherlands' most prestigious award in improvised music.

He can be heard in a variety of groups, including Available Jelly, Sean Bergin’s MOB, ICP Orchestra, Chris Abelen Quintet, Joost Buis and his Famous Astronotes, Frank van Bommel Quartet and Curtis Clark.

Eli is a young multi-instrumentalist from Providence, Rhode Island who primarily works with percussion, bowed crotales, guitar and his own invented instruments. He's already collaborated with the likes of
Jandek, Phill Niblock, Loren Connors, Roscoe Mitchell and Greg Kelley.

His recordings for ESP-DISK and others have received rave reviews form The Wire, Arthur, Boston Phoenix, Volcanic Tongue and more. Live, he's a bewitching prodigy with seemingly limitless limbs and ability.

"what sounded like a hot improvising trio of guitar, keyboards - orelectronics - and a formidable drummer, all playing together with a remarkable degree of empathy...was the work of one musician, Boston multi-instrumentalist and composer Eli Keszler" Mike Barnes, The Wire

"Eli Keszler studied composition at the New England conservatory and specialises as a percussionist. Every untitled improvisation on Endgrove demonstrates the subverted virtuosity of a classically educated performer gone feral: from tumbling, Varese-like clatter to the icy overtones of crotales played with a metal bow, and assembled
with an acute compositional sense. On the second cassette, he adds guitar and other instruments, with a jolt of electricity, to make music - full of lurching blurts and high end drones - that resembles vintage Noise such as Wolf Eyes' more contemplative moments. It's a neat full
circle: a trained musician playing instruments by hand in real time, skilfully recreating a patchwork, lunk-headed sound that was all about avoiding virtuosity." Daniel Spicer, the Wire

Mono Turntablism
In his PA Dual-project, Remco Packbiers uses 4 to 8 mono record players. His aim is to find the perfect musical fragment at the right time in the right musical environment. His masterful mixing skills utilise a whole range of musical genres like Grass Roots, Rare Grooves, Folk Music (Ethnic), Lock Grooves, Spoken Word, Contemporary music, Electro-Acoustic, Avant-Hop, Dub-Step, Breakcore and Noise.

plus Vj Chuu with live animations

Chuuu, the theme of his works are nostalgia-ism and reconstitution. In his paintings and drawings, influenced by Lautrec,Beardsly,Saul Bass,Japanese Ukiyoe and Leonardo da Vinci's sketches,he expresses nostalgia by using techniques such as scraping and scaling paints, use dry impasto material to make crack surface, dye 60 years old paper with tea and use flat touches and intentionally unshaded image.Adding modern elements of manga and anime on those, that is his work.Mostly the background image is blank to accentuate the line of the body or shape. He uses Acrylics,Gouache,Aquarelle,
Ink,Colored pencil,Tea,Oil,Magazines and more.
In his video works with the same theme,he made an animation system by using the technique zoetrope(invented by William Horner in 1834) and stroboscope,a turntable that DJ uses and a video camera combination." Turntable Animation" is the name of this animation system,he turns his 12 inch record shape hand-drawing,collage,printed works on a turntable. He has been performing this " Turntable Animation"performance in many different places.Above all,the loop animation of circularized notes is a video performance that is like spinning around the musical notation that has been originated in Europe from the 17th century and John Cage and Marcel DuchampÈ? on a DJ turntable.

Edgar Wappenhalter (B) + The Urpf Lanze (B)

The Urpf Lanze is the alter ego of Wouter Vanhaelemeesch, who is known as one of the people behind the audioMER and Smeraldina-Rima labels - but even more so as a graphic artist. The Urpf Lanze brings primitive outsiderfolk from a lonely spacecottage that consists of indeciferable moaning and hollering accompagnied by a detuned guitar played on the lap. Influences range from Kazuo Ohno, Kan Mikami, Bill Orcutt, Charlie Patton, Geeshie Wiley, Liu Fang, Robert Wilkins, Harry Partch, Chinese Menstrual Dream, Keiji Haino, Peg Leg Howell...

Debut album is coming out on Jozef van Wissems Incunabulum label somewhere in the beginning of April.
http://vimeo.com/15735806

Whereas Edgar Wappenhalter's (ex-Sylvester Anfang) earlier tapes focussed on either his reverb-drenched folksongs, or his ecstatic tapeloop-experiments, his debut-lp "On The Beach" (morctapes) mixes these two sides of mr Wappenhalter. Expect songs that blend shoegaze and psychfolk, or sound like a beachparty heard from so far away that you can't tell what the dj is playing, only that it sounds familiar and great. (morc)

Great slice of cosmo folk/drone mystery from this solitary Belgian, a central player in the whole Funeral Folk/Silvester Anfang cult. On The Beach conjures hallucinatory images of Join Inn-era Ash Ra Tempel, with surging clouds of reverb riding slow-motion guitar into oddly-pitched lo-fi singer-songwriter environs that take the doomy folk vibe of the Tommy Roundtree circle/Ski ?p Spence’s Oar and transpose it to distant DIY four-track realms ala Joshua Burkett. Saturday February 5 - Two Live Concerts
Zea & Les Lumineuses Fievres

Zea is a breakpop mono from Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Armed with guitar, mic, drum machines, sampler and synths, Arnold de Boer comes with fast-paced programmed drums, copious synth work, guitars that go from jangly to strummy on a moment’s notice, and vocals that chant as much as they sing; 8-bit electronic sounds exploding all over the place, and at the same time a poptune isn't out of the question either. Since 2009 Arnold de Boer is also the new singer and guitarist of The Ex.

Kerrang: “Like They Might Be Giants jamming with the Ramones or Pink Floyd headlining a punk convention

LOGO magazine: “Zea sounds like he’s been visited by the Gary Numan-obsessed ghost of At The Drive-In. A brightly hued collage of electro, glitch-pop and heavily compressed guitars, the image of Stephen Malkmus reborn as an angry wasp trapped under a beer glass is one that won't abate. Here sits two very good arguments for legalising drug use."

Sunday January 30 - Live Concert & filmloops
Floris Vanhoof (ultraeczema , kraak)

Some creatures have too much energy, too much energy even to be caught on a picture, by the time the machine sez click floris vanhoof already ran off, cutting and glueing 56 meters of lurid 8 and 16 mm film together to create a cluster of filmloops all playing at the same time and interacting with a slimeball of thick synth/tape madness! a full time member of stoner ensemble R.O.T., though solo-soundwise very different, a full time visual artist and a full time body and synth builder/connaisseur! a lot to be full time, though stronger than the tape holding his filmloops or the elastic holding my stockings.
